Sustainable forest management requires cooperation across many sectors so that good forest practices are not undermined by shifts in macroeconomic policy or other areas. PROFOR’s forest-smart and cross-sectoral programs identify trade-offs as well as win-win situations where healthy forests can generate local and global goods, create jobs, and contribute to poverty reduction. By partnering with specialists in other fields to identify solutions together, PROFOR encourages innovation and forest-based solutions in sectors that historically have had adverse impacts on forests. PROFOR is engaged in programs across sectors and themes, including energy, agriculture, disaster risk management, gender, mining, land use, and landscape governance.
