Forest governance encompasses topics relating to how forest resources are managed, ranging from how decisions about forest use are made and who is involved in the decision-making process, to the enforcement of forest laws and policy on the ground. By providing opportunities for stakeholder dialogue and sharing knowledge from practical experiences with national forest programs and forest institution reform, PROFOR supports initiatives that aim to align government, private sector, and civil society interests and responsibilities, and promote equitable and efficient forest management practices. PROFOR aims to enhance accountability in the forest sector and contribute to a better understanding of forest law enforcement by supporting empirical research and analysis to fill gaps in information and knowledge and to assess possible tools to facilitate enforcement.
