Organized by PROFOR, the World Bank and FAO. Hosted by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
This two-day symposium gathered about 45 participants (country representatives, donor partners and NGOs) to advance the development of practical and feasible frameworks for assessing and monitoring the quality of forest governance.
The workshop took stock of ongoing and somewhat overlapping initiatives at a time when a growing number of programs (FLEGT, REDD+, FIP, etc) are focusing on forest governance as a key factor of implementation success. Workshop sessions produced a strong commitment to move forward with the creation of a common framework of principles and criteria for forest governance that would avoid duplication of efforts.
This symposium followed a PROFOR-funded field-testing workshop held in Uganda in June 2010.
