Forest Day 4 - Cancun, Mexico

PROFOR sponsored two sessions at Forest Day 4 in Cancun:  

10:45-12:15 Adaptation Now: Options for transforming landscapes to build climate change resilience (Sub-plenary co-hosted by PROFOR, the World Bank, IUCN and the World Agrofrestry Center).

This session opened with an inspiring 10-mn film on landscape restoration by director John Liu and a keynote address by Pavan Sukhdev, Special Advisor and Head of UNEP's Green Economy Initiative.

Panelists included:  

  • Inger Andersen, VP for Sustainable Development, World Bank;
  • Salifou Sawadogo, Mster of the Environment, Burkina Faso;
  • Alberto Chinchilla, Exutive Director of the Central American Indigenous and Peasant Coordinator of Communal Agroforestry, ACICAFOC, Costa Rica;
  • Tim Rollinson, Director of the Forestry Commission, United Kingdom

The panel was moderated by Dr. Jose Campos, Director General of CATIE.

 

14:30-16:00 Moving forward on the governance reform agenda: Illegal logging, corruption and climate change (Learning event co-hosted by PROFOR, the World Bank and FAO).

Keynote speech by Arun Agrawal, Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Natural Resources & Environment at the University of Michigan, USA
