Part 1 provides a guide for Toolkit users, charting out the steps to be taken before and after field data is collected. It also provides guidance for building relationships and buy-in from decision makers and relevant audiences.
Part 2 - The Field Manual

Part 2 is designed to enable users to gather data in the field. It is adaptable to local capacity and assumes that those using the toolkit may need initial training prior to application in the field. This part includes suggestions for site selection, and for the steps to be taken before the field exercise can begin. It goes on to describe the field tools, with instructions for their use, providing all the charts needed together with examples illustrating the data they generate. There are full explanations of the purpose of each tool, the materials needed for each, and problems to look out for. Part 2 is designed so that it can be used as a free-standing manual for use in the field.

The Case Studies

The Synthesis and Six Case Studies is intended as background reading for researchers, and/or staff of national or international NGOs who might be involved in taking responsibility for the use of the Poverty-Forests Linkages Toolkit at national and local levels. This part contains a series of extended case studies, illustrating the contribution of forests to poverty reduction in Guinea, India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, and Tanzania. The case studies also provide some examples of a broader range of methods and tools which can be used for information collection and analysis, when the time frame available is weeks or months rather than a small number of days.
