PROFOR is made possible thanks to the financial contributions from the following donors:
In addition, the World Bank houses PROFOR's Secretariat.
PROFOR's Advisory Board is chaired by the World Bank, and is comprised of representatives of PROFOR's donor organizations. In addition, two non-donor representatives (from other forest-related processes, the private sector, developing countries, NGOs) participate in the work of the Advisory Board as observers. These positions are currently held by a representative from the African Forestry Forum and from the Christensen Fund. The Advisory Board operates on the basis of consensus.
PROFOR support strengthens the World Bank’s collaboration with other development partners, in particular with the National Forest Programme Facility hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, with members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, with the European Union’s programs on forest law enforcement, governance and trade, and with a variety of REDD+ related initiatives.
In the process of generating and sharing forest-related knowledge, PROFOR has formed a flexible network with government organizations, international organizations, leading think-tanks and local NGOs working towards a common goal: sustaining forests for all.
The National Forest Programme Facility (Facility) and the Program on Forests (PROFOR) are two initiatives with a common mandate: to support national forest programs (nfps) or other national forest policy processes. Both programs work to implement internationally agreed priorities and objectives related to forests. However, in working towards their shared goals, the two programs take distinct approaches and fulfill different roles. The Facility provides country support to enable governmental and civil society actors to manage and develop nfp processes, whereas PROFOR supports analytical work and generates knowledge in the form of lessons learnt and new tools and approaches on key issues within the forest sector, such as forests-poverty linkages. These two distinct yet complimentary roles are the foundation of a two-way partnership between PROFOR and the Facility.
