PROFOR's Advisory Board is chaired by the World Bank, and is comprised of representatives of PROFOR's donor organizations. In addition, two non-donor representatives (from other forest-related processes, the private sector, developing countries, NGOs) participate in the work of the Advisory Board as observers. These positions are currently held by a representative from the African Forestry Forum and from the Christensen Fund. The Advisory Board operates on the basis of consensus.
PROFOR support strengthens the World Bank’s collaboration with other development partners, with members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, with the European Union’s programs on forest law enforcement, governance and trade, and with a variety of REDD+ related initiatives.
In the process of generating and sharing forest-related knowledge, PROFOR has formed a flexible network with government organizations, international organizations, leading think-tanks and local NGOs working towards a common goal: sustaining forests for all.
PROFOR's Secretariat is housed at the World Bank, in the Agriculture and Environment Services department. Historically, the program was moved from UNDP in New York to the Bank in Washington DC to coincide with the launch of the Bank's 2002 forest strategy. In the process, PROFOR gained privileged access to the largest source of multilateral financing for forests and a chance to inform and influence the Bank's operations at a time when the institution was reengaging in the forest sector.
