PROFOR will join the FLARE Annual Meeting 2017 to present the Forest-SWIFT tool and findings from its application in Turkey. The Forest-SWIFT tool facilitates data gathering to track and understand poverty and forest dependence.

FAO, CIFOR, IFRI, LSMS and PROFOR of the World Bank jointly launched the sourcebook ‘’National socioeconomic surveys in forestry: guidance and survey modules for measuring the multiple roles of forests in household welfare and livelihoods” in Rome on October 27. Seeing the Forests and the Trees by Gwendolyn Stansburry on the Data Blog provides an overview of the sourcebook, as does the PROFOR story A new Survey Tool Promises to Raise the Profile of Forests in National Development Agendas.

At the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress, PROFOR participated in sessions on Implementing the World Bank Group Forest Action Plan (FAP) and on Who Benefits, How much? How to adequately measure human welfare impacts in forest conservation initiatives. A new Forest SWIFT (Survey of Wellbeing via Instant and Frequent Tracking) tool being developed as part of the PROFOR forests and poverty program was presented at both session and the PROFOR Forest Governance Tool was highlighted at the session on implementing the FAP.
